The first division of the Kōchi Police Investigation Unit re-arrested three mainland Chinese nationals on the 15th on suspicion of shoplifting large quantities of cosmetics from Japanese drugstores.

The three were hired by a Chinese internet recruitment site to steal goods and ship them to an organization on the continent. The Kagoshima Police had previously arrested them, and they have reportedly confessed to illegal activity in six prefectures, including the aforementioned two.

The three who are being indicted for theft are Teng Bing-liang (Japanese transliteration Tō Heiryō, 23 years old, address unknown), Son Bo (Son Haku, 23, Yokohama City Fukutomi-cho), Zhu Zhang-yuan (Shu Kōgen, 29, Saitama City Chūō-ku Suzutani), all of whom are unemployed.

According to the police announcement, following a plot the three made in advance, Teng and Son entered a drugstore at Kōchi City, Rozuizumidera-chō last December 11 between 1 and 5 PM, put 36 items such as cosmetics and health productions (total value ¥69,001) into a shoulderbag, and left the store. Zhu waited outside with the getaway car.

On March 3, the Kagoshima Police arrested the three for shoplifting at a drugstore. During their investigation they discovered the Kōchi case. Teng has testified that he was recruited by a criminal organization through a recruitment site for Chinese people, matched with the other two suspects, and ordered to steal cosmetics and other goods and ship them to China.

The three have been charged with stealing from eight stores in five cities besides Kōchi from December 11-14; they allegedly took as many as 77 items from a single shop. The three have reportedly confessed to illegal activity in Ehime, Tokushima, Okayama, and Yamaguchi.
