On the 3rd, New York City announced that it will entirely restock its fleet of “Yellow Cab” taxis with Nissan NV200 minivans.
New York and Nissan have signed a 10 year contract, and its current cars will be systematically replaced with NV200s. According to American media, the contract is worth over one billion dollars (or 81 billion yen).
Nissan’s specially-designed NV200s are produced in Mexico. Their glass sun roofs allow tourists to enjoy a full view of the city, and they have cell phone chargers in the passenger seats. There are currently about 13,000 Yellow Cabs, and they include 16 models from 9 companies, for example Ford Motor Company’s Crown Victoria.
